Every year on the 30th of April, modern witches from around the globe congregate on the Blocksberg in Germany to celebrate Walpurgis night, a ritual immortalised in Goethe’s “Faust”. The custom dates back to Saint Walpurga (710-779), the patron saint against the plague, rabies and superstition.
