Peppermint is highly aromatic and can soothe a hurting tummy – but it also confuses ants! Ant communication is based on pheromones, and they leave chemical trails behind them to lead their comrades to the next food source. If you pour peppermint oil on an ant track, the aroma will mess with the insects' sense of orientation and disband the army.
