Harvard’s Widener Library is the second largest in the United States. It was named after Eleanor Widener’s son, Harry Elkins Widener, who died in the sinking of the RMS Titanic. Eleanor Widener donated $3.5 million to have the library built under the condition that the physical building of the library could never be changed. When the library expanded, architects had to construct rooms underground.
