China's Guangxu Emperor, who died in 1908, was very likely poisoned by Dowager Empress Cixi, who herself passed away the next day after him. The level of arsenic in his body was 2,000 times higher than normal. Many historians claim that the Empress, sensing her imminent demise, had the Emperor poisoned so he could not reverse her policies once she was gone.
