Mary, Queen of Scots was the Queen of Scotland from 1542 to 1567. She was just six days old when her father passed away, making her the Queen of Scots as a tiny infant. Understandably, there was chaos following her father’s untimely death, with several of Mary’s family members making efforts to secure the throne–but it was decided that Scotland would be ruled by regents until Mary became an adult. Mary’s reign was marred by rumours and public outrage. Ever dramatic, Mary managed to escape her imprisonment at Lochleven Castle in 1567, fleeing to England seeking protection from her cousin, Elizabeth I. There, she was held prisoner for 19 long years before facing a treason trial and meeting a swift end.
