President Calvin Coolidge apparently lived up to the “cool” in his surname. During his presidency, Coolidge once awoke in his hotel room to find a burglar rummaging through his possessions. Coolidge struck up a conversation with the man and convinced him to hand back his wallet. When Coolidge discovered the thief was a student who needed to pay for college, he gave him the $32 that was in there and told him it was a loan. He then instructed the student to leave the way he came to avoid being caught by the Secret Service.
