The origins of the candy cane go as far back as 1670 when the choirmaster of a cathedral had candles made in the shape of a shepherd’s crook. They were distributed to children attending the church’s service to encourage them to be silent. Today, almost 2 million candy canes are made each year for the Christmas holiday season.
