Architecture, an Olympic sport? During the first four decades of the modern Olympics, medals were awarded to architecture, as well as for music, painting, sculpture and literature. The founder of the International Olympic Committee, Baron Pierre de Courbetin, considered art an essential component of the Games. There was only one rule: every submission had to be related to sports.
