The Roman Colosseum, which could accommodate about 50,000 spectators, was used for gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, re-enactments of pivotal battles and dramas, but it could also be flooded so that miniature mock naval battles could take place for entertainment. Some festivals and games could even last up to 100 days!
