Fear can actually be switched off – but that’s not necessarily a good thing: Toxoplasma gondii is a parasite that infects a large number of mammals but can only reproduce in the bodies of cats. When it infects mice, it completely turns off their fear of felines, causing the mice to be caught and eaten and transporting the parasite to their preferred breeding ground.
