The first automobile was a one-cylinder, two-stroke design by Carl Benz. He had worked on it for years, but finally completed his project on New Year’s Eve. The car was patented as a “vehicle powered by a gas engine” and had the patent number 37435, which is now known as the original birth certificate of cars.
