The letter P is the only letter in the English alphabet that can create a word sandwich with any vowel: pap, pep, pop, pip, pup. The letter is fairly common in the English language. About 10 percent of English words begin with the letter P, and a majority of these words are of foreign origin, mostly French, Latin, Greek, and Slavic.
