Do you know what a tittle is? It’s the dot above the letters “i” and “j”! The dot appeared so that these letters wouldn’t get lost in manuscripts before the age of printing. This is also why the letter "I" is capitalized when it is used as a pronoun. In the Phoenician alphabet, the letter "I" might have come from a hieroglyph for an arm.
