Steven Spielberg was once pipped to direct the first film adaptation. Unfortunately, he clashed creatively with Rowling, and Chris Columbus took over. This was good news for Daniel Radcliffe, as Spielberg had initially wanted Haley Joel Osment, star of the “Sixth Sense,” to play the leading role. What a different film that would have been!
