Interesting fact:

The show takes place in upstate New York at “Litchfield Correctional Facility,” which is technically fictional. However, there does exist a prison called “Litchfield County Jail,” which was built in 1812 and is located in Litchfield, Connecticut. However, this penitentiary is not currently operating.
