New Zealander Alexander von Tunzelmann is believed to be the first person to step foot on the mainland of Antarctica at Cape Adare on January 24th, 1985. Von Tunzelmann was only 17 at the time! The New Zealand government officially named the place Von Tunzelmann Point in 1998.
