"Star Trek" was the first TV show for which a second pilot was produced. The original pilot, titled "The Cage", had been rejected as "too intellectual". Commanded by Captain Christopher Pike, the Enterprise had a female first officer – a revolutionary idea considering the gender roles of the 60s. "The Cage" was first broadcast in 1988.
