The Andorian Shran was played by Jeffrey Combs, a Star trek veteran who had portrayed eight distinct characters in three series. In the DS9 episode „The Dogs of War“, he even appeared in two seperate roles, as a Ferengi and as a Vorta. Originally, he had auditioned for the part of Commander Riker.
