Interesting fact:

In 1954 a report was published in Life magazine which documented the high levels of illiteracy amongst American children. This prompted Dr. Seuss’s publisher to ask him to write a book for children learning to read – he called it ‘The Cat in the Hat’. It uses only 250 words giving children a way to practice and expand their vocabulary.
