Karl Friedrich Benz was one of the founders of the automobile design and manufacturing powerhouse known today as Mercedes-Benz. Benz received his first engine patent in 1879 followed by his first automobile patent in 1885. The first stationary gasoline engine that Benz developed was inserted into a small three-wheeled vehicle and run for the first time on New Year’s Eve 1879.
