If you listen carefully you will notice that Buffy’s last name is never once mentioned in the film. It was not until the release of the television series in 1996 that she is referred to as Buffy Summers. The film production was not without its difficulties: writer Joss Whedon was so frustrated by how much of his vision was being mishandled that he eventually walked out on the set and never came back.
