Interesting fact:
Due to the white phosphor used in matches, factory workers in the early 1800s developed a painful condition called “phossy jaw”. The jaw bone would start to disintegrate and glow in the dark (only when extracted though). The condition was lethal for 1 out of five affected. It got better after the discovery of red phosphorus in 1845.
