Interesting fact:

Whilst the name given to the empress in the film is not heard…or at least not clear… in the book it is ‘Moon Child’. Realizing that the story will repeat itself forever without his intervention, Bastian names the Empress 'Moon Child' to restore its existence through his own imagination.
