Unfortunately, Ende wasn’t much of a fan of the film version. He called it a "gigantic melodrama of kitsch, commerce, plush and ______". Ouch. Can you fill in the gap?

Interesting fact:

Many scenes in the ‘real’ world were filmed in Vancouver, Canada. Several landmarks from the city are visible in some of the early scenes in the film. When Bastian is chased by bullies for instance, you can spot the famous ‘Gastown Steam Clock’ at the right side of the screen.
