Michael Landon had to dye his magnificent mane whilst filming the show, as he went prematurely grey in his twenties. He initially tried to dye it himself, but the combination of the dye he used and the scorching sun turned his hair an odd shade of lavender, which wasn’t conducive to filming. He eventually agreed to allow a professional to do it.
