Every spring in Japan, thousands of cherry blossom trees go into bloom sparking a frenzy of ‘harumi’. ‘Harumi’ means ‘looking at flowers’ – there is even a Cherry Blossom Forecast on TV! Many Japanese people have special harumi picnics where they meet with their families to admire the blossoms. Tokyo saw the cherry blossoms open on March 21st in 2016 – with the end of the season on April 6th.
