Like all the useful bees in the hive, Betty is female. The male worker bees are tremendously lazy, and their only function is to mate. That’s why, in harsh conditions and when food becomes scarce, Betty and her female friends force these good for nothing fellows out of the hive, as they are a drain on precious resource. Girl power!
