South America’s Andes is the longest mountain range on Earth. It is shared by seven countries: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. The Andes house the world’s tallest active volcano – it’s called Ojos del Salado and is on the Chile-Argentina border. Its name means ‘Eyes of the Salty One’ and is so-called because of the eye-shaped deposits of salt that pigment its glaciers.
