The emoji craze caught on so much after 2012 that the word was actually added to the Oxford Dictionaries in August 2013. Its description reads: “A small digital image or icon used to express an idea, emotion etc.” It also wasn’t the only weird addition to the dictionaries as a number of other odd internet-related words made the cut, including “First World Problems”, “Lamestream” and “Sysly”.
