Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen were hired to play the role of Michelle because of their talent and the fact that they didn’t cry during their audition. Twins were needed to play the part because of strict child labor laws, limiting the work hours of young kids. There were 10 sets of twins that auditioned, and the Olsen sisters were the only ones who behaved.
