Interesting fact:

Most of the movies that were made before 1929 no longer exist! That means that 75% of the movies from the silent movie era have been lost forever. Once sound came to movies, studios no longer thought there was any worth to their old reels – so they simply threw them away! And much of the old movie contained highly flammable material which could spontaneously combust – this destroyed many movie archives.
