In English we have many homonyms – words which have the same spelling or pronunciation but mean different things. If you mix up two homonyms it can change the meaning of the sentence entirely. This can make English pronunciation very difficult and hard to learn for non-native speakers. Try reading aloud the sentence: “I deserted my dessert in the middle of the desert” and you’ll see why!
