As the heir to the British throne, Queen Victoria was heavily protected by her mother and stepfather during her childhood. Her parents created a system of rules, called the Kensington System, to control every aspect of Victoria’s childhood. She even had to hold someone’s hand every time she went down the stairs! Once she became queen she used her newfound power and independence to banish her stepfather.
