Interesting fact:

Lane Kim was based on Amy Sherman-Palladino’s best friend Helen Pai (also a producer on the show). She named Lane’s band Hep Alien because it’s an anagram of Helen Pai! The actor who plays Lane, Keiko Agena, was actually 27 when she first started – a lot older than her 16-year-old character!
