To cost-efficiently shoot the model spaceships, the VFX team of Star Wars developed the Dykstraflex motion control camera. It could repeat the exact same movements with incredible precision, allowing the team to combine several passes of the models into one complex shot. The effort paid off: Star Wars won an Oscar for best special effects.
