Star Wars was heavily influenced by "Flash Gordon". George Lucas had originally intended to reboot this 1936 film serial but couldn’t acquire the rights – so he had to make up his own space epic. The flying paragraphs in the Star Wars opening titles are adopted directly from "Flash Gordon".
