Interesting fact:

Candy canes were first made to keep children quiet during the Christmas church service! In 1670 a German choirmaster asked a candy maker to add a crook to the top of each candy cane to symbolize the shepherds present at the birth of Jesus. This mean he could then justify giving children candy at church!
