In France Christmas is called ‘Noël’. This word comes from the French phrase – ‘les bonnes nouvelles’ – which means ‘the good news’. In the story of Jesus’ birth the angel visits the shepherds in the fields to tell them the good news. Noel, or Noelle for a girl, is a very common name in France for babies born at Christmastime!
