Sales of the American flag soared to record highs following the tragic events of 9/11. Walmart’s Corporate Communications department revealed that their stores sold 115,000 flags on September 11, 2001, compared to 6,400 the same day in 2000. For the following year, Walmart sold a total of 7.8m flags, compared to 2.5m the year before.
