There were only 16 wooden lifeboats and 4 collapsible boats onboard the Titanic. Believed to be “unsinkable,” this was deemed to be a suitable amount and was actually more than what was legally-required in 1912. Sadly, this amount could only accommodate 1,178 people, which was less than one-third of those onboard.
