Rowling is one of the most influential people in the world of books. Her works have touched the lives of millions and she’s broken a ton of records along the way – and she’s not done yet! Sometimes the most remarkable of things have the smallest beginnings. In fact, the entire world of Harry Potter began on a napkin. J.K. Rowling initially scribbled the idea for the Harry Potter books down on a delayed train from Manchester to London in 1990, and the rest is history really. The first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was later written on a typewriter and the novelist elected to write a fair amount of it in the cafes of Edinburgh. Little did people know what this woman was writing away at with her young daughter by her side.
