Interesting fact:

Laika went from a stray dog in Russia to becoming the first mammal in Space! In 1957, she was sent up into the Earth’s orbit in the Soviet Sputnik rocket. There is now a monument to her in Moscow to commemorate her sacrifice – it is of a dog standing on a rocket.
