Interesting fact:

Poor Pam Ferris, who played Miss Trunchbull, received several injuries during the filming of Matilda. She had to keep her eyes open as blackboard erasers were thrown at her and her eyes became inflamed from the chalk. She also had to have the top of her finger sewn back on after she injured it during the pigtail stunt!
