Suzanne Collins, the Hunger Games author, modelled her books on Greek mythology. She modelled Katniss after the Greek savior of Athens, Theseus. She used the Greek idea of ‘hunger and circuses’ to show how cruel regimes create superficial methods to appease their subjects – the ‘circus’ in this case is the Hunger Games.
