Ulysses S. Grant is famed for his Civil War victories, narrowly escaping assassination and… his smoking habit! In fact, Grant smoked a whopping 20 cigars a day. He was almost always painted, sculpted and photographed with a cigar in hand. He became known for smoking cigars during the Civil War conflicts and was gifted more than 10,000 boxes of cigars by the grateful public. Perhaps not surprisingly, he died of throat cancer in 1885.
