Jung studied symbols and myths of many different cultures to define his archetypes. These archetypes represent behavioral patterns that make up different ways of being. He said: “One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The later procedure, however, is disagreeable and therefore not popular.”
