Interesting fact:
Scotland and England had a tempestuous relationship before the crowns were merged in 1707. In 1569 Mary Queen of Scots claimed the throne of Queen Elizabeth I and began a rebellion against her. Elizabeth captured Mary and kept her imprisoned for eighteen and half years before having her executed. Elizabeth ended up deeply regretting Mary’s death and when she died she left the throne to Mary’s son – James I.
