President Andrew Jackson is the only president to have killed somebody in a duel. Jackson was president from 1829-1837 and known as an argumentative and violent character. He once dueled with Charles Dickinson who had insulted his wife – Jackson challenged him to a duel and both men were shot. Jackson survived and went on to become U.S. President while his opponent did not recover. It is thought Jackson took part in over 100 duels during his life!
