Harry Truman once said, ‘If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog’. Something Obama certainly took to heart when he adopted a Portuguese Water Dog soon after his election as President. But an even more extreme example is John Quincy Adams and Herbert Hoover – they both had alligators as pets in the White House! Adams even gave his alligator its own room and bathtub.
